Fundraising Highlights

I am proud to report that at our May monthly meeting the 2003-2004 budget was unanimously passed by the club.  The JWCB raised close to $8,000 for scholarships, charities and club philanthropic endeavors thanks to your volunteerism and participation.  $5,000 went to our local scholarships with  $4,000 of the scholarship funds awarded to our own Bellerose Village graduates.   Approximately $3,000 was donated this past year to many charitable causes locally, nationally and internationally – many of which were recommended by club members through our Ad-Hoc Fundraising – Charities Sub-committee.  Donations were sent to organizations such as St. Thomas’ Episcopal Nursery School, Cooley’s Anemia Foundation, Interfaith Nutrition Network, A. Holly Patterson Nursing Home, Ethiopian Famine Relief, Cross Island YMCA, Mutiple Sclerosis Society, UNICEF, St. Jude Children’s Cancer Hospital, FISH of FP, Y. Dowling Memorial Scholarship, 1 in 9 Breast Cancer Coalition,  and the USO – Support our Troops, to name a few.  A full listing will be available at our Opening Tea.  The remainder of the fundraising dollars was voted to be in reserve for our fall charities and events.  To celebrate our 70th anniversary, a curio display was purchased from the St. Vincent de Paul Foundation this past spring and is located in the Village Hall balcony. Special thanks Lynn Krug,  Scholarship Chair and Barbara Salmon, Fundraising Chair for a fabulous year!

President’s Message

I would like to thank all of the JWCB members for the wonderful President’s Night this past May.  The diamond pin is beautiful and I was glad to see my job was not in “jeopardy” for another term.   I was almost “speechless” but not for long – from my heart thank you so much! And Meg, thank you for your exquisite designer cake, the catering and decorations!  I’d also like to thank the JWCB Officers for always supporting me and to Kate Dorry and Susan Powderly, thanks for joining the team – we hope you like “JEOPARDY”!

Thank You, Santa!

The JWCB offers special thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Claus (AKA Dot and Henry Hettinger) for their generous donation of time and Christmas spirit during the holiday season each year!  Santa Home Visits are a tradition and due to their generosity, they help raise funds for the Hettinger Scholarships that are awarded in their name and celebrated at Concert Under the Stars each June!  Thank you!
