Beautiful Woman Month!
Happy New Year everyone! Did you know that January is Beautiful
Woman Month and it is a chance to celebrate us? The Junior Women’s Club
of Bellerose welcomes you back after a beautiful holiday season. Our next meeting
is on Wednesday, January 29, 2003, 7:30PM at Village Hall. We will be having
our “Lemon Auction”. The “Lemon Auction” is a mid-winter
night of fun – all you have to do is bring down gifts you may have received that were real “lemons” and
donate them to our auction - we have a special auctioneer, a bidding “war” and the highest bidders walk away with
new treasures for themselves, their homes and families. Best of all, we raise
money for charity! So please bring some $ so you can get in on the bidding!
While we truly
enjoyed a White Christmas, I believe it was even more memorable due to the hard work of club members like Jean Moore, Paige
de Armas, Linda Tanalski, Kathy Brandt and Mary O’Donoghue who hosted our Village and Club holiday events. Mary, along with club members and our teens made our Village Food Drive a success by remembering those
truly in need as we entered the holiday season. Linda, her committee and her elves did a wonderful job decorating Village
Hall and hosting our Tree Lighting and Breakfast with Santa events. Who can forget
the festive evening at our Holiday Party? Jean and Paige hosted a warm and fun evening with great food and entertainment –
it was so nice to see the members, spouses, neighbors and friends join in the fun! “Name
That Tune” stole the show for the evening. Kathy Brandt single-handedly
ran a Winter Coat Drive for those in need of warmth in the frigid weather! Special
thanks to Mayor and Robbie Van Buskirk, Rosemary, Tria and George at Village Hall for all of their help with Club events these
past few months – we couldn’t do any of this without their support! Thanks
to all of the members who volunteered their time last month!
It
is with deep sadness to inform you that two of our club members, Marie Cappiello and Mary Kelly, lost their fathers over the
holiday season. Our prayers and thoughts are with them.
There
will be no monthly meeting in February, however there are meetings of Officers, Department and Committee Chairs and the Ad-hoc
Fundraising Committee scheduled. We will be finalizing the spring calendar of
events and we need to decide on a Spring Fundraiser. All members are welcome
to get involved or just learn more about what we do – if you have any ideas or would like to become more involved, I
invite you to attend a special Ad-hoc Fundraising Committee meeting scheduled at Village Hall on Wednesday, February 13th
at 8PM. If there are any charities you believe may be worthy of the Club’s
consideration, please email or send me information on the charity for the committee’s review. We are your Club; we want to reflect your values and would love to hear from you! Although we are not having a monthly meeting in February, Paige and Jean have planned a Wine Tasting Social
on Thursday, February 27th and they have also planned a Bowling Night on Saturday, March 29th (see attached
flyers) so we can get together. Hope you can join us!
Finally,
I’d like to thank Loretta Barnes and Valerie Schillero for a wonderful Craft Night in November. Loretta, thank you for your decorations that make all of our holiday and club events so beautiful. I am also happy to report that our own Junior Spirit editor, Mary Vaccaro,
gave birth to her second son, Matthew Anthony, on January 5th. Congratulations
to Mary, Vincent and big brother, Vincent on their new addition and for giving our Club such good luck in starting off the
New Year!
Have a beautiful month,
